Brands Giving Back For Good
Brands that inspire
Join us in discovering how our favorite brands are inspiring us and are making a positive difference.
There are amazing individuals and companies out there doing some pretty remarkable things. And in a world that is often focused on the bad news happening worldwide, we want to shift our focus positively and appreciate the efforts of those truly making a difference.
The best part? You can actively contribute by supporting these brands through your purchases. Some of these brands are ones we’ve collaborated with at LRobInspires, along with others that simply inspire us. We hope this closeup of brands that “do good” inspires you to find new ways to positively impact our shared world.
Who Gives a Crap
“WE STARTED WHO GIVES A CRAP WHEN WE LEARNT THAT 2.4 BILLION PEOPLE DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO A TOILET (NOW 2 BILLION — YAY FOR PROGRESS!).”
It might surprise you to learn that over 2 billion people lack access to a basic necessity: a toilet. While having easy access to toilets is a given in many places, the unfortunate truth is that it’s far from the standard for everyone around the world.
In March 2013, Simon, Jehan, and Danny founded Who Gives A Crap with a profound understanding of the global toilet crisis and its severe health implications. They recognized that without proper sanitation, waste contaminates vital water sources, impacting not just drinking water but also water used for bathing and cleaning. Motivated by this insight, they established Who Gives A Crap, a company dedicated to addressing these challenges and ensuring fundamental access to sanitation and clean water for all.
Through the sale of eco-friendly products like toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, and reusable alternatives, Who Gives A Crap has raised approximately $8 million USD ($13 million AUD) and continues to increase this impact. Their mission is clear: to guarantee that everyone has access to clean water and a toilet within this lifetime. Impressively, 50% of their profits are devoted to the cause. Plus, all their products, crafted from recycled paper or bamboo, not only contribute to this mission but also promote environmental sustainability.
Birdy Grey
Birdy Grey has a very niche way of giving back. Founded by Grace and Monica, Birdy Grey launched in 2017 as an online bridesmaid dress retailer. Their goal was to lower the price of bridesmaid dresses that are ready to ship to make the bridesmaid dress shopping experience smoother. They have since expanded their product line to include pajamas, robes, gifts, and groomsmen attire.
More than just revolutionizing the bridesmaid and groomsman shopping experience, they have an added unique way of giving back. Birdy Grey partnered with The Princess Project, a non-profit out of California. And what makes their partnership so special is that Birdy Grey dresses, suits, and accessories are being repurposed for very good use. The Princess Project provides free dresses and accessories to teens in need for prom.
Their targeted approach has been able to help over 35,000 teens. Having these dresses and suits when they would normally not be able to afford them is truly monumental in these teens’ lives. Birdy Grey and The Princess Project are not only helping their self-confidence but also promoting individual beauty. In a time in those teens’ lives when the little things like prom and other events in high school seem like the biggest moments, missing out because you didn’t have the right dress can be very harmful to their self-esteem. Birdy Grey, through The Princess Project, is helping to change that.
Patagonia
“WE’RE IN BUSINESS TO SAVE OUR HOME PLANET. WE AIM TO USE THE RESOURCES WE HAVE–OUR VOICE, OUR BUSINESS AND OUR COMMUNITY–TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR CLIMATE CRISIS.”
Patagonia, the popular adventurous outerwear and clothing brand, not only makes excellent and durable products, but they also are doing good for our planet. They create campaigns to Protect America’s Arctic, for Protected Ocean, for Climate Justice, to Protect Nature, and for Environmental Justice.
For around 40 years they have made efforts to support different grassroots activists who work to better our planet and save our environment. Through educating, contacting government officials, enlisting fans of the brand to participate, and pledging 1% of their sales, they have been able to donate over $46 million to environmental groups around the world. They are an inspiration to every clothing brand by making a true change.
FairTrade Caravans
Carol Fassino, the founder of FairTrade Caravans, started a woman-owned business that revolutionizes fundraising by promoting fair trade fundraising. They are an online platform that allows schools and non-profits to set up events digitally, have their communities purchase fair trade, ethically sourced, sustainable products, and receive 20% of the profits toward their chosen cause.
Their products are all fair trade and are sourced ethically to not only be good for those who are creating and transporting products but also for the environment. Overall, a truly amazing brand and a beloved client of LRobInspires. We have had the opportunity to work with Carol and FairTrade Caravans to further spread their message and the message of fair trade.
Blueland
Most plastic is only used once even though it is made to last forever. This plastic ends up in our oceans and has toxic effects on people and the planet. Sarah, the CEO and Co-Founder of Blueland, recognized this and wanted to make a difference.
“OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE: MAKE IT EASY TO BE ECO WITH INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS IN REUSABLE PACKAGING THAT ARE CONVENIENT, EFFECTIVE AND AFFORDABLE.”
Blueland makes reusable products and packaging that are eco-friendly. They are making a difference in single-use packaging by creating reusable packaging and refill packs. Their cleaning and soap tablets start out tiny and with the addition of water, turn into a whole bottle of cleaning spray or soap. Thinking outside of the box, they are finding ways to keep plastic out of our oceans. They have been carbon-neutral since 2020 and are Climate Neutral certified as well.
Life is Good
The brand’s name says it all: Life is Good. Their mission is clear—to make life better for everyone. Aside from making cute shirts with inspirational quotes and messages, the Life is Good brand is also making a positive impact on children’s mental health.
Life is Good has a separate non-profit called Playmaker Projects that they fund through 10% of their profits and additional donations that focus on children’s health and mental health through play.
“1 IN 3 KIDS EXPERIENCE SOME FORM OF LIFE-THREATENING ADVERSITY LIKE HOMELESSNESS, ABUSE, OR COMMUNITY VIOLENCE. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH JUST ONE CARING ADULT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD CAN CHANGE THAT CHILD’S LIFE ENTIRELY.”
The purpose of the Playmaker Project is to be able to give children positive interactions with adults that are filled with joy in order for children to heal and learn. They have trained more than 16,000 early childhood professionals through their Playmaker University. The training is based on how children heal and how they can be a positive force in their healing journey to support recovery to thrive. This project is changing the lives of our future world one child at a time and giving children the best opportunity to succeed from their trauma and circumstances.
Forest
One of our teammates here at LRobInspires, Gemma, used this app in school and shared it with us because of the positive impact it makes.
Stay focused, be present. Forest is an app to help you stay away from your phone and stay focused while completing important tasks, but it also has a fun and impactful bonus. When you stay focused and off your phone, you earn virtual coins that can be redeemed to plant real-life trees on our planet.
They have been able to plant 1,601,884 trees all because users stayed focused. If you are looking for a way to help your focus when it comes to school, work, or maybe just trying to be present at a dinner with friends, downloading Forest can do the planet good all while doing yourself good as well.
