Celebrating National Intern Day

July 25, 2024

By Amelia Harris & Shannon Cyr

In honor of National Intern Day, we wanted to shine a spotlight on our two marketing associates, Amelia and Shannon, who are spending their summer with LRobInspires! Both girls finished their freshman year of college knowing they had a passion for marketing but felt eager to learn more about what a career in this field looks like. Continue reading to learn about their experience so far!

Amelia H.

Hi everyone! My name is Amelia Harris, and I work as a Marketing Associate at LRobInspires. I am a rising sophomore at the University of Richmond in Virginia, looking to major in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Finance, as well as a minor in French Studies. As a student at a liberal arts school, I have not yet been able to experience much in the field of my major, which is why I am thrilled to be learning so much about the marketing world at LRobInspires this summer!

Throughout the first few weeks of this internship, I have had the pleasure of working heavily with the MicroLoan Foundation. Based in Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, MicroLoan Foundation is a social microfinance non-profit that promotes women’s empowerment and works to reduce poverty. It is truly inspiring to hear about the countless success stories of women who, after being given loans and taught how to handle their money, ultimately have the opportunity to grow flourishing businesses that fully support their families. My primary focus has been on creating an Ambassador Kit for their Brand Ambassadors, ensuring they are fully equipped to educate and spread the word about this fantastic cause. From emails to infographics to social posts, I have worked in various areas to give them all the information and tools they need to support the MicroLoan Foundation, and I am proud to be a part of this impactful work.

In contrast to my work with the MicroLoan Foundation, I have also spent lots of time working with both Wayland Dental and Putts & More strictly for social media posts. This work has allowed me to expand my knowledge and skills with the platform Canva, where I have learned all things graphic design. Whether it be color palettes, the importance of contrast, word count, keywords, or photography, it has been great to gain exposure to all that goes into a simple social post. From photographing content to creating graphics to writing captions and hashtags, I now have a versatile skill set that encompasses all aspects of a successful social post, and I am excited to apply these skills in my future endeavors.

All things considered, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn in detail about all of the different fields of marketing. Having the chance to use WordPress for Jou Nouvo, write blogs for LRobInspires, create UTM Codes for Whitinsville Golf Club, and, of course, create content for many other organizations has been such a valuable experience. I am looking forward to gaining more hands-on exposure; I can’t wait to go back to school and be able to apply all of the knowledge I have gained from this internship to my education!

Shannon C.

I went into my freshman year at Endicott College completely unsure of what path to follow with too many interests to choose from. Although some may see this as a positive thing, it made for a really difficult time declaring my major. After taking a couple of marketing, advertising, and media related courses, I realized that this field allowed me to hone in on my passion for writing and creativity while connecting with the world around me.

At Endicott, every student is encouraged to complete three internships before graduating. This program is a great way to explore what working in your prospective field is like before physically leaving the nest. After my interview with Founder Liz Robinson, I felt so confident that this team or brand and marketing experts would teach me so much about this field, and boy was I right! I’ve only been with LRobInspires for a little over a month, but have already gained so much real world experience that has taught me way more than a textbook ever could.

In this short period of time, I’ve had the privilege to work with so many incredible companies that are actively making a difference in the world. For instance, I’ve been working with the incredible nonprofit, Jou Nouvo, who provide countless educational opportunities to the children and adults in Haiti. Through a sponsorship and donation based program, Jou Nouvo is actively empowering the people of Haiti and creating a cycle of hope. With this project, I’ve been able to gain fundamental marketing skills using WordPress to design a variety of blog posts for Jou Nouvo and placing an emphasis on search engine optimization. Despite learning all of these new skills, it’s been even more fulfilling to know that the work I’m doing is for the benefit of a life-changing organization.

Outside of Jou Nouvo, I’ve also had the chance to design countless social media posts for local businesses like Wayland Dental, Putts & More, Studio on the Hill, and LRobInspires themselves. From brand kits to color palettes to font specifications, I’ve learned so many graphic design tips and tricks within Canva working with all of these companies these past few weeks. As I’m constantly meeting with the fantastic members of our marketing team, not a day goes by that I’m not learning something new. It’s so rewarding to physically experience and utilize each skill I learn in my daily work, rather than simply observing it.

My time at LRobInspires has been the perfect introduction to the wide world of marketing, allowing me to catch a glimpse into every direction my future in this field could take me. Whether I’m filming and editing weekly vlogs, designing social media posts, meeting with clients, drafting Instagram captions, or carefully crafting a blog post, I’m learning more than I could have ever hoped for before starting this internship.

Thank You Interns!

As our summer college interns reflect on their time with us at LRobInspires, it’s clear that their journey has been one of tremendous learning, growth, and fun. They’ve gained invaluable real-world experience that will set them apart when they return to class this fall. For us, the presence of interns brings an infectious energy and renewed enthusiasm for our daily work. We relish the opportunity to share our expertise and knowledge with the next generation, benefiting from their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. We encourage businesses to offer internships to students; the partnerships you create will not only inspire the interns but will also reinvigorate your organization in ways you never imagined.
